Subject: New Book, Multiobjective Optimization of Smooth Functionals
Multiobjective Optimization of Smooth Functionals: Application to
Aeronautics by Jean-Antoine Désidéri
Multiobjective Optimization of Smooth Functionals: Application to
Aeronautics provides classical adjoint formulations and gradient-based
or gradient-free numerical techniques in multiobjective optimization
subject to partial differential equations. The author formally
develops the gradients of smooth functionals in representative
situations for computational purposes and discusses numerical
approaches in multiobjective optimization. These approaches, including
two original methods that go beyond a classical course, provide
guidance in solving specific problems. This book also provides test
cases in simulation and optimization typical of aeronautical
engineering problems as well as exercises.

Subject: New book, Matrix Nearness Problems and Eigenvalue Optimization
We announce the book
Matrix Nearness Problems and Eigenvalue Optimization
by Nicola Guglielmi and Christian Lubich.
Matrix nearness problems ask how far a given matrix is from having a
prescribed desired or undesired property. This book considers spectral
properties such as singularity, defectivity, stability, and
instability, as well as systems-theoretic properties such as
controllability and passivity, and graph-theoretic properties such as
connectivity and centrality. Such problems arise naturally in
numerical linear algebra, dynamical systems, robust control, graph
theory, and other areas of applied mathematics.
The book develops a computational framework for a broad class of
matrix nearness problems based on eigenvalue optimization. Exploiting
the low-rank structure of optimal perturbations, it presents efficient
two-level algorithms combining low-rank matrix differential equations
with scalar root-finding techniques. The book covers mathematical
foundations, derivation and analysis of algorithms, and a variety of
applications.

Subject: Special Issue “Recent Advances in Bilevel Optimization” in the EURO Journal on Computational Optimization
We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to the Special Issue
“Recent Advances in Bilevel Optimization” in the EURO Journal on
Computational Optimization (EJCO), organized on the occasion of ICBO
2026.
The Special Issue aims to showcase recent theoretical, methodological,
and computational advances in bilevel optimization, including topics
such as mixed- integer, nonlinear, stochastic, and robust bilevel
optimization, as well as connections with inverse optimization, game
theory, and machine learning. Contributions addressing applications
in areas such as energy, security and interdiction, transportation,
and artificial intelligence are also particularly welcome.
While papers presented at ICBO 2026 are especially encouraged,
submissions are open to the entire bilevel optimization community, and
participation in the conference is not required.
Submission deadline: December 15, 2026
More information, including submission instructions and the list of
Guest Editors, is available here:
https://bileveloptimization.org/icbo/2026/special-issue.html
We encourage you to consider contributing and would be grateful if you
could also share this call with colleagues who may be interested.
We look forward to receiving your submissions!
Best regards,
The Committee of the Bilevel Optimization Society (COBOS)
