Subject: Online hackathon, composing differentiable simulation pipelines, Aug 2026

Tesseract is an open-source tool for wrapping simulation components
so they compose into end-to-end differentiable pipelines. There is
currently a month-long online hackathon throughout August around
that idea.

The challenge is to take differentiable components that don't
naturally fit together (using different languages, frameworks, or
autodiff strategies) and compose them so gradients flow through the
whole thing, then use that to solve a real design, inference, or
training problem. Tracks cover inverse design, multi-physics
coupling, hybrid ML + mechanistic models, differentiable inference/
UQ, and differentiable rendering.

Subject: Season 2 of the BOS Webinar Series starts September 1, 2026

The BOS Webinar Series is back for its second season, starting on September
1, 2026!

Season 2 features talks by researchers working on theoretical, computational,
and applied aspects of bilevel optimization. Seminars will take place bi-weekly
on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm CET via Microsoft Teams. Each session is
approximately 50 minutes long and may feature either one 40-minute talk or
two 20-minute talks, followed by discussion.

Subject: Liverpool Discrete Mathematics Colloquium, 8-9 September 2026

The 3rd Liverpool Discrete Mathematics Colloquium takes place on
8-9 September 2026 at the University of Liverpool, UK.

This year's edition focuses on mathematically rigorous analysis of
black-box AI and optimisation algorithms. The first day is devoted
to the Logic Aspects of Graph Neural Networks, while the second day
focuses on Stochastic Gradient Descent. Each day will feature a 2-
hour tutorial together with invited talks and time for discussion
and networking.

Subject: Online training for preCICE, Oct 5-9, 2026 (Americas time zones)

preCICE is an open-source coupling library and ecosystem for general
partitioned multi-physics and multi-scale simulations, including
surface and volume coupling. The software provides methods for
transient-equation coupling, communication, time interpolation, and
data mapping. Several free and proprietary codes are currently coupled
with preCICE, such as OpenFOAM, SU2, and deal.II. preCICE's API is
available in all languages you need: C/C++, Python, Fortran, Matlab,
Julia, and even Rust.

An online hands-on training tailored to participants in the Americas
time zones will take place October 5–9, 2026. The course is suitable
for beginners. Sessions will run daily from 12–3 pm EDT (UTC-4) and
will cover both the essential first steps with preCICE and selected
advanced features. The program will also include invited presentations
from users in the Americas, together with a general overview of recent
preCICE developments and news.

Subject: Workshop: WOMBAT 2026, Nov 2026

The 2026 Workshop on Optimisation, Metric Bounds, Approximation and
Transversality (WOMBAT) will be held at the University of Melbourne
from 25 to 27 November. This is an annual workshop organised by the
Mathematics of Computation and Optimisation (MoCaO) special interest
group of the Australian Mathematical Society.

The goal of WOMBAT is to bring together both Australian and
international researchers who work on all areas of optimisation. We
welcome contributions on any topic related to mathematical
optimisation: theoretical, computational, or applied.

This year's keynote speakers are Rachael Tappenden (University of
Canterbury) and Haihao Lu (MIT).

Note: WOMBAT is running two weeks before NeurIPS 2026 in

"Numerical Linear Algebra in the Era of AI."

The workshop will bring together researchers from mathematics, computer
science, engineering, national laboratories, and industry to explore
emerging developments at the intersection of numerical linear algebra
and artificial intelligence.

Topics include iterative methods and preconditioning for large-scale
optimization, scalable matrix and tensor decompositions, randomized
and data-driven algorithms, learning-augmented numerical methods,
hardware-aware algorithms for GPUs and AI accelerators, and numerical
linear algebra challenges arising in large-scale machine learning.

and Computational Mathematics (ICM) PhD Program at Morgan State
University, working with Dr. Mingchao Cai. Expected starting date:
Spring of 2027 or Fall of 2027.

The research is situated at the intersection of numerical analysis of
partial differential equations, computational science and engineering,
as well as machine learning. Potential topics include finite element
methods and efficient solvers for multiphysics PDEs, computational
fluid dynamics, poroelasticity, reduced-order modeling, and
machine-learning methods for scientific computing, with applications
in computational biomechanics, biomedical modeling, and energy
systems.

Strong candidates with backgrounds in applied mathematics,
computational mathematics, numerical analysis, scientific computing,
or related areas are encouraged to apply.

Cuyt, featuring original research related to the core themes of the conference.

We invite submissions of high-quality, original research papers on topics
