Thanks to the hard work of Cornell MEng student Plamen Galinov, the NA
Digest web page now features an events calendar and a job board. Event
announcements and job postings will continue to be included in the digest as in
the past, but will now also be linked under the "events" and "jobs" tabs at

Following the Leslie Fox Symposium on June 23, the winners of the 2025
IMA Leslie Fox Prize for Numerical Analysis are announced as follows:

1st Prizes:
James Foster (Bath) for "High order splitting methods for SDEs satisfying a
commutativity condition"

Tizian Wenzel (LMU Munich) for "Analysis of target data-dependent greedy
kernel algorithms"

2nd Prizes:
Sara Fraschin (Vienna) for "Stability of conforming space-time isogeometric
methods for the wave equation"

Georg Maierhofer (Cambridge) for "Bridging the gap: symplecticity and low

Subject: Using C++20 modules in mathematical software

Much mathematical software is written in C++ and, as a consequence, these
packages export their interface via the header files that C++ has inherited
from C. Header files are at best clunky, and so every language developed
since the mid-1970s has had a proper module system that does not rely on
textual copy-and-paste. C++ finally has such a module system too, since the
C++20 standard.

I wondered whether we can use this new system in our ecosystem. I have
not been able to find much prior art on the topic, and so spent a few months
teaching the widely-used finite element library deal.II how to build modules.
With a bit of effort, this can be made to work, and I've documented both the
process and my experiences here:

I'd of course be interested in hearing feedback, both on the preprint and in
particular if others have experience they'd like to share as well!

optimization methods applied to matrix nearness problems. The project lies at

The Graduate Research Training Program PharMetrX: Pharmacometrics &
Computational Disease Modelling is an interdisciplinary PhD program
bridging pharmacy and mathematics. PharMetrX aims at understanding the
drug-patient-disease interaction by analysing data of drug
concentration, effect & disease profiles of pre-/clinical trials and
of therapeutic care by developing and applying pharmacometric
(i.e. PK, PD, disease) mathematical & statistical models.

We are currently inviting applications to enrol in the PharMetrX
Research+ Program or the PharMetrX Training+ Program.

The PharMetrX Research+ Program (Research & Training & Network)
comprises an excellent research environment in the vibrant
Berlin/Potsdam area, fascinating and innovative research projects in a
highly relevant field, truly transdisciplinary working groups and
supervision, an individual mentorship from one of the associated
industry partner consortium, a specifically tailored training program
of compact academic and industry modules, a network of 123 peers and a
competitive 3.5 years fellowship.

The PharMetrX Training+ Program (Training & Network) offers a
specifically tailored training program of compact academic and
industry modules that convey the foundations in pharmacokinetics &
pharmacodynamics, systems biology, statistics, methodological

Subject: PhD Position: Numerical Modelling of Turbidity Currents - Norwegian Geotechnical Institute & University of Oslo

The BETTER project seeks a PhD candidate to develop numerical models for
submarine turbidity current dynamics and their impact on offshore wind
infrastructure.

Turbidity currents are subaqueous gravity flows with suspended sediments that
can travel far and impact submarine structures. These turbulent flows involve
complex dynamics including vertical mass transport, bed entrainment and
deposition.The research will develop numerical models to simulate complex
turbidity current dynamics including sediment transport and run-out behavior.
Models will be validated against field observations and used to quantify
structural loads on offshore infrastructure.

The position offers international collaboration through the Marie Skłodowska-
Curie network with secondments across Europe.
