It is our pleasure to announce the thematic three-month programme entitled
"Mathematical developments in Geophysical fluid dynamics" at the Institut
Henri Poincaré (IHP) in Paris.
Registration for the programme is mandatory and free

An Introductory School will be organised at CIRM (Marseille), from 13th to
17th of April, 2026

Three conferences will be organised at IHP:

Workshop 1 from April 20 to 24, 2026: Vortices and vorticity in geophysical
flows

Workshop 2 from May 18 to 22, 2026: Instabilities and transitions in
geophysical flows

Workshop 3 from June 29 to July 3, 2026: Idealised mathematical models for
geophysical flows

Important : Deadline for financial support requests is October 15th, 2025

Subject: Call of Expressions of Interest: DSEL software engineer in Montpellier (France)

The Montpellier node of the ERC Synergy project "NEMESIS" is calling for
expressions of interest for a fixed-term software engineer position. The role is
to participate in the development of a DSEL (Domain-Specific Embedded
Language) in C++, providing user-friendly tools to implement polytopal
numerical schemes.

Polytopal schemes are numerical methods for partial differential equations, that
can be applied to meshes made of generic polygons (in 2D) or polyhedra (in
3D) and are of arbitrary order of accuracy. The current library used by
researchers in Montpellier, HArDCore (https://github.com/jdroniou/HArDCore),
contains all the tools required to handle these methods, but requires a heavy
investment to be fully accessible to end-users. The objective is to build, using
boost::proto and by adapting the modules available in HArDCore, a language
providing the tools to easily describe polytopal methods, in a way that is as
close as possible to their mathematical writing (in a similar way as FreeFEM
https://freefem.org/ for finite element methods, but embedded in C++). This
language will make polytopal methods more easily available in simulation
software; we aim at integrating it in the computational frameworks TRUST of
the CEA, code_saturne of EDF, and Arcane of CEA & IFPEN.

The engineer would be located in Montpellier (France), and the position would
be for 2-3 years (depending on available funding). They would work under the
guidance of Jérôme Droniou and Daniele Di Pietro (principal investigators in the
project NEMESIS) and Rémy Dubois (CNRS research engineer), and would be
integrated in a team of 10+ researchers in the project.

The Porous Media Group at the University of Bergen is looking for a PhD

Subject: Postdoc Position at University of Sao Paulo

The Institute of Mathematical and Computer Sciences (ICMC) at the
University of São Paulo invites applications for a postdoctoral
position funded by the FAPESP-EPSRC international collaboration grant
"Predicting Critical Transitions in Complex Dynamical Networks:
Reduction and Learning." The position offers a tax-free monthly
stipend of R$12,000. Travel expenses from the candidate’s home country
to Brazil may also be covered by the grant. The initial appointment is
for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based
on satisfactory performance.


Job Description / Requirements:

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor
Tiago Pereira, from the Dynamical Systems Group in the Department of
Applied Mathematics at USP. The research will be conducted in
collaboration with King's College London (Dr. Matteo Tanzi) and
Imperial College London (Professors Jeroen Lamb, Sebastian van Strien,
and Dmitry Turaev) as part of the aforementioned EPSRC project.


We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following
areas: random dynamical systems, ergodic theory, or dynamical systems
on networks. Applications are welcome from candidates with a strong
theoretical background as well as those with computational expertise.

Subject: Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position at Columbia University

We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in
applied mathematics and scientific computing, emphasizing inverse problems
in seismology and Bayesian analysis. The position is associated with the
Modeling Earth from Atomic to Global Scale (MINERALS) project funded by the
Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The project aims to advance and
integrate three branches of geophysics – mineral physics, seismology, and
geodynamics – to analyze and interpret the seismological structure of the deep
Earth.

The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team of senior and
junior scientists to develop machine learning and Bayesian methods to
interpret seismic tomographic models of the elastic structure of the deep Earth
in terms of temperature and mineralogy. Using thermodynamic properties
databases, these analytical methods will also be applied to predict equilibrium
mineral assemblages in collaboration with an international team of
geochemists and petrologists.

The position is initially for one year, possibly extending to four years.
Candidates should have recently completed or be nearing completion of a PhD
in scientific computing, applied math, mineral physics, geophysics, materials
science, or a related field before the position start date.
