and whether you want to attend our traditional conference dinner on the
evening of Monday 2nd June which will be held in the restaurant Au Gascon.
In addition to our core of numerical linear algebra, talks in optimization,
data assimilation, and scientific machine learning, for example are welcome.
The maximum length for the talk and questions is 30 minutes but you are
welcome to request a shorter slot. As usual we will not be having parallel
sessions so talk times are negotiable.

Subject: Postdoc position in Numerical Analysis at Lund University
There is an open PostDoc position at Lund University. This is a full-time, fixed-
term employment of two years.
The research group on Scientific Computing for a Sustainable World works on
designing and analyzing numerical methods for the simulation of fluid flows and
their interaction with surrounding media. These methods are then used to help
design wind turbines, to understand turbulent combustion in jet engines that
run on renewable fuel, and to improve climate simulations and weather
predictions. The group is active in the national strategic research areas
eSSENCE and MERGE and collaborates with the Swedish meteorological and
hydrological institute (SMHI) and Environment and Climate Change Canada
(ECCC).
You will work on methods for interface coupled problems, in particular, but not
limited to, the interaction of oceans with sea ice and the atmosphere. We
intend to continue our work on the analysis and design of fast iterative coupling
methods, based on a domain decomposition approach.
The position includes 20% teaching, such as lectures in existing courses and
supervision of Bachelors and Masters Thesis.

Subject: Postdoc position on global lake ecosystem simulation at Umeå University
We are pleased to announce a postdoctoral position focusing on developing
advanced computational techniques to reduce the complexity in simulating lake
physical dynamics at scale. Borrowing from numerical methods used to design
wind turbines and understand turbulent combustion in jet engines, this
research aims to address critical computational challenges in simulating the
physical dynamics of millions of lakes worldwide. The successful candidate will
create innovative solutions that significantly enhance large-scale environmental
simulations and meaningfully advance the modeling of global lake ecosystem
dynamics. This is a full-time, two-year position. The application deadline is May
5, 2025, and the expected start date is September 1, 2025, or as agreed upon.
The planned work for this position consists of performing 1-D hydrodynamic
model simulations using tailored techniques of projection-based model order
reduction. The research primarily aims to understand interactions between
climate processes and carbon dynamics, including fluxes at Earth System
scales. The postdoctoral researcher will join a dynamic research group at Umeå
University and is expected to spend some of the research time at Lund
University. The project will be supervised by Cristian Gudasz at Umeå
University, done in close collaboration with Philipp Birken and Mengwu Guo
from the Scientific Computing group at Lund University. Other collaborators
within the project includes Yves Prairie (UQAM), Jan Karlsson and Paolo
Bientinesi (Umeå University).
