caused by a NaN [1], and the growing need for reliable software more
generally, those of us responsible for the BLAS, LAPACK, and related

Numerical Continuation and Bifurcation in Nonlinear PDEs

This book provides a hands-on approach to numerical continuation and
bifurcation for nonlinear PDEs in 1D, 2D, and 3D. Partial differential
equations (PDEs) are the main tool to describe spatially and
temporally extended systems in nature. PDEs usually come with
parameters, and the study of the parameter dependence of their
solutions is an important task. Letting one parameter vary typically
yields a branch of solutions, and at special parameter values, new
branches may bifurcate. After a concise review of some analytical
background and numerical methods, the author explains the free MATLAB
package pde2path by using a large variety of examples with demo codes
that can be easily adapted to the reader's given problem.

The 27th International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods
(DD27) will be held in Prague, Czech Republic during July 25-29, 2022.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss recent developments in
various aspects of domain decomposition methods bringing together
mathematicians, computational scientists and engineers who are working
on numerical analysis, scientific computing, high performance
computing, and computational science with industrial applications.
DD27 will be organised jointly by the VSB - Technical University of
Ostrava, the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of
Sciences, Prague, and the Czech Technical University in Prague.
The organizing committee hopes that the conference will restart the
standard conference scheme after the COVID restrictions. Nevertheless,
a hybrid format is also considered should the pandemic situation
require it.

Semester on "Mathematics of Imaging in Real-World Challenges" is open.
The kick-off workshop will take place on October 6th 2021 online and

Bundesanstalt Institute Berlin (PTB), Germany.
The event will bring together speakers from academia and industry. The
workshop will include special sections on open access software and
real-world applications, a panel discussion on "Public Software and

of simulating a cell-by-cell electrophysiology model of the heart at

Experiment: The challenge of indirect measurements in the natural
sciences at the Georg-August-University Gottingen offers the position
of a PhD student (75% TV-L E13) for three years starting Oct. 15,
2021. The researcher will work on the project C01 "Density matrix
reconstructions in ultrafast free electron optics" in the research
group of Thorsten Hohage, co-supervised by Claus Ropers regarding
physical aspects. Depending on the interests of the candidate
different directions of research are possible. One focus could be the
numerical and analytical study of plasmonic resonances described by
Maxwell's equations and inference on such resonances from experimental
data. Another potential focus is the design and analysis of algorithms
for inverse problems with matrix-valued unknowns.
