Subject: First Release of BEM++, open source boundary element library
We are happy to announce the first release of BEM++, an open source
Galerkin boundary element library. Features include
- C++ and Python interfaces.
- Galerkin discretization of all standard boundary integral operators
(single-layer potential, double-layer potential, adjoint
double-layer potential, hypersingular operator) for Laplace,
Helmholtz and modified Helmholtz problems in three dimensions.
- Numerical evaluation of boundary-element integrals (singular
integrals dealt with using Sauter-Schwab quadrature rules).
- Triangular surface mesh handling. Import of meshes in Gmsh format.
- Piecewise constant and continuous piecewise linear basis functions.
- Dense-matrix representation of boundary integral operators supported
natively.
- Assembly of H-matrix representations of boundary integral operators
via adaptive cross approximation (ACA) supported thanks to an
interface to M. Bebendorf’s AHMED library.
- H-matrix-based preconditioners (via AHMED).
- Easy creation of operators composed of several logical blocks.
- Interfaces to iterative linear solvers from Trilinos.
- Evaluation of potentials in space (away from the discretized
surface).
- Export of solutions in VTK format.
- Parallel operation on shared-memory CPU architectures.
To download and install the library just follow the instructions at
www.bempp.org. The code has been tested under several Linux
distributions and Mac OS (10.7 and 10.8). The library currently does
not work with Windows.

Subject: New software: qr_mumps
I would like to announce a new software package called qr_mumps -- a
direct solver for sparse linear systems based on the multifrontal QR
factorization. qr_mumps is a parallel, multithreaded software based
on the OpenMP standard and is specifically designed for multicore
architectures. Parallelism is achieved through a decomposition of the
workload into fine grained computational tasks which are then
dynamically scheduled.
The package is written in Fortran2003, but has a fully functional C
interface, and is distributed under the LGPL license.

with experience in seismic-data processing (e.g. with promax) and/or

programming languages. Since the DNOISE II program calls for a broad

interests, be able to work on more hands-on projects involving field
data or on more computational or theoretical topics. The positions are
